My summer projects
Posted by Unknown
May sweeps are over, and I'm taking a week off from writing. I'll be back the first week of June and starting my summer reviewing projects.Since Veronica Mars is now gone, I can take on another currently running show. It probably won't surprise you to hear that I'm taking on Supernatural, since I'm sort of half reviewing it already. Why Supernatural and not Prison Break? Because even though
Supernatural 2.22: All Hell breaks loose

Jake: "We're soldiers in a demon war to bring on the Apocalypse?"Sam: "Well, when you put it like that..."It's resurrection time. Although what else could they do? It's a two character show; we're not going to buy into them killing off one of them. Unless the series was ending, and it's not.Unlike Sam, I was definitely expecting them to kill off Bobby and/or Ellen, and they didn't. I'm glad they
Supernatural 2:17: Heart

Yes, I expected dog jokes, but the last thing I expected in a Supernatural episode was tears. Sam's were exceptionally effective, as was Dean's single tear. Yes, the musical score sort of ran away with them in that last big scene and I didn't cry myself or anything, but this was a really good episode. I keep expecting the obvious from Supernatural (that it was Kurt, the religious guy with the

Bobby: "Aliens?"Dean: "Yeah."Bobby: "Aliens??"Dean: "Yeah."The last two episodes of Supernatural have been outstanding. In my opinion, the best of the entire series. So far.Last week's was a Sam tour-de-force. I've always loved Dean but haven't been as gung ho about Sam. I'm gung ho now; this episode tipped me over the edge. Jared Padalecki's acting ability really impressed me. And I'm not easily
See, I told you clowns were evil

SupernaturalSeason Two, Episode Two – Everybody Loves a ClownThis episode was about killer clowns and I hate clowns! Dean and Sam are off to find the demon again by tracking down an old friend of their father. While they are visiting this friend, Ellen at her roadside joint they have exactly 51 hours to kill and just happen to find something to hunt. This particular Hindu spirit disguises itself
All the Supernatural premiere lacked was Demi Moore

Dean: "I full-on Swayzeed that mother."Supernatural came out the gate with a very cool Ghost take-off. You gotta love a disembodied Dean stomping around, for the most part unintimidated by near-death, bargaining with the Grim Reaper. I do love Dean. And I like Sam better all the time, although I still wish he'd get his freaking mop of hair out of his eyes. However, I don't like Daddy Winchester.
Supernatural season finale

The Supernatural crew outdid themselves with their first season finale in an episode full of cliffhanging surprises and classic rock.We probably all expected that continuing character Meg would, well, continue. But no. Instead, the Winchester boys rescued the real Meg, and she died. This was of course intended to set up the final showdown with the Ceiling Fire Demon possessing their father. The

And so far, the winner is (and I can't believe I'm saying this) ... Supernatural. It's not terrific yet or anything, and I still think they should recast Sam, but wow, it's fun to watch. After last Tuesday's, I said to Dan that I was going to go into the bathroom and say "Bloody Mary" in front of the mirror three times, and he said (seriously), "Don't you dare." They're tapping into something
Invasion and Night Stalker

Sorry about the quietude. I've been (1) preoccupied with the premieres of all these new sci-fi shows, and (2) sick with the flu.I've now watched two episodes of Invasion (which I am calling, "Invasion of the Thirty-Something Body Snatchers") and I'm sorry, but it's just not grabbing me. I think they're trying for another Lost, i.e., something subtle with a lot of mystery that develops slowly. But
Supernatural, one more time

I liked the second episode better than the first.Leaving aside the wendigo and the grue, which wasn't all that bad, I again found myself very much liking Jensen Ackles. I liked the M&Ms, the white meat comment, and the way he "spoiled the moment" at the end. If I were a writer on Supernatural, he's the character I'd be writing for. And if this series catches on, it'll be because of him.Dan and I
More about Supernatural

I've been trying to put my finger on what didn't work on Supernatural, and I've got it.We had no opportunity to get to know and like the characters. In the first few minutes, we got burning women on the ceiling. Attention-getting, sure, but if you can't connect with the characters, there's no buy-in.I think that Jensen Ackles (did I spell that correctly?) is worth a second viewing, though.
Supernatural premiere not all that super

I think the testosterone level on this show is a little too high for me. And ... is it me, or is this show not all that scary? I was yawning through the second half, and glancing at the clock. But that could have been because of a long day at work, so I'll certainly watch episode two next week.Jensen Ackles, lately of Smallville, was my favorite part of the premiere episode. His character, Dean
Supernatural: Sort of like Ghostbusters, with Hunks
